Rideau Canal Chalets

March 19th, 2019

The Rideau Canal, also known unofficially as the Rideau Waterway, connects Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, Ontario, to Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River at Kingston, Ontario. It is 202 kilometers in length. Wikipedia

As spring officially makes its arrival on March 20th, the City of Ottawa hires us to lift the Rideau Canal Chalets out of the waterway. The Chalets are prepared and saddled with racks and special strapping. Using a Crane the Chalets are lifted square in the air over trees and lighting, using extra techniques to assure the utmost security. Our vehicles and trailers are equipped to transport the Chalets to their hibernating locations for the Spring, Summer and Fall Seasons. The Chalets are transported to a location where they will undergo maintenance and upkeep to be used once again the following Fall and Winter.

5 to 7 Chalets are lifted and moved once water has thawed out. Mother Nature determines the date for removal of the Chalets. All winter, these Cabins are used as rest areas for Nation’s Capital Skaters, a great winter tourist attraction in our Province. The Chalets sit on fixed posts resting solidly in the water that can only be accessed in the Spring, Summer and Fall Seasons. Waterway level is lowered in order to help the set up and removal of the Chalets.

In conclusion, we are always proud to offer this service to the City of Ottawa. We appreciate patience and understanding from motorists that drive down those streets while we remove the Chalets. The Rideau Canal is an heritage to our Nation. Spring brings new activities to the City and whether skating or boating on the Rideau Canal, always use extra caution and appreciate this beauty of a landmark.
